At the end of the game yesterday, the Seahawks had 17 seconds left and this was their sequence:

rush +1 yd
spike -1 yd
penalty -5 yds

to bring their kicker out for a 54 yd fg w/ 4 sec remaining.

They dodged a bullet in having a ref who knew the rulebook so that the penalty didn't end the game, but was all that machination to move from a 49 to 54 yd field goal while saving 13 seconds worth the chance of a game-ending penalty on any of their 3 plays?

What was the likelihood that the Rams could have used however few seconds remained after the squawks hypothetically convert a field goal and kick off to engineer a game-winning drive relative to the likelihood that they themselves would have goofed on their 3 separate opportunities to do so, and have the clock run out?
