Re: retire abroad

I think one or more of my great grandparents was born in Europe (Germany), but to my knowledge all grandparents were born here.

My wife had grandparents born in Italy.

Re: retire abroad

For Ireland you need a parent or grandparent who was born there. It varies by country.

Well, that leaves me out. My mother is almost 100% Irish (I think one German invaded the ancestry tree) but her relatives came over in the 1700s. [more]

My FICO based on Transunion data is a puny 845, but based on Equifax data is, today, 850 BEOTCH!

Re: retire abroad

But I got an Irish passport about 10 years ago that allows me to live in any EU country just in case the situation in the US deteriorates under Republican governance.

What's the requirements to obtain one?

Re: Why So Many Early Retirement Haters?

In any event I have told my law partner that I am retiring early by lawyer standards - on 12/31/18 -slightly ahead of my 63rd birthday.

Is it early because lawyers love to work or need to work? My father-in-law, a judge, is still [more]

Re: Why So Many Early Retirement Haters?

In MMM's case in particular, he claims (and I have no reason to doubt his claims) that he retired at age 30 with a paid off house and $800,000 in investments. He and his wife had careers in tech, so those numbers seem plausible. He claims he [more]

The thread on the Robin Hood remake made me think about remakes. Are there any remakes that people think are better than the original? I think was happens is that people get attached to an original movie. They watch it multiple times. When a remake [more]

not sure i understand your reasoning. if you accept a gift, it means you have more than you would have had had you not accepted the gift. our daughter and son-in-law paid cash for their home. gifts from both sets of parents helped that happen. [more]

Or you could just pay cash for the home. It's amazing how much paperwork disappears if you buy a home for cash.

If a person is accepting a gift as part of their down payment, it seems very doubtful that they can pay cash for the [more]
