My Story
I started investing at the young age of 13 when I bought an up and coming medical device company called Medtronic. I used money I had saved from collecting cans and mowing lawns, along with a little help from my family to buy a nice position in the stock. After a few years, three splits and a $20,000 profit I was hooked.
The early 2000s weren't as kind in the market but at the time I was in college and focused on other things. After graduating with a Mechanical Engineering degree I spent much of my free time and far too much of 3M's time researching stocks. I soon started a blog called Main Street Stocks to test my skills by writing about stocks and making picks every month. After beating the market for 18 straight months I knew I was on to something.
So I decided to apply for MBA school to make the transition into finance. At the same time "the man", aka 3M, decided it no longer needed my services and offered me cash money to walk away. For the next 16 months I lived the good life of a full-time student before graduating.
Of all the applications I submitted before and after graduating there was only one I really hoped would get back to me. As luck would have it they did. The Motley Fool hired me to write investment articles in July 2010 and I've been at it ever since.
So that's my story...
