My Story
My life has changed in so many ways over the years, so a little history might give this perspective.
My parents divorced when I was nine. My father ran off with his best friend's wife. My mother battled with an un-diagnosed mental illness for my entire life. We lived off welfare, SS, food stamps, and government cheese. The water that seeped into our basement had to be swept into a sump pump. My mother’s mental state interfered with her ability to clean house, so our house looked like an episode of Horders. If you wanted a clean dish, you took it off the dirty pile on the table and washed it. I was diagnosed hyperactive and medicated from a young age. When I was 20 I joined the military and spend over 13 years making bad choices.
After getting divorced, leaving the military, and filing for bankruptcy, I had a moment of Divine intervention. It started when I quit drinking. I got a job earning minimum wage, got promoted and decided to both pay and catch up on my child support. I met my lovely wife (and we just celebrated 18 years of marriage) and become monogamous, which had not been my habit or pattern. We married after two years and she is truly an example of who I want to be when I grow up. One year later I went back to school full time while working full time and got my Bachelors in accounting. I went to work in public accounting, completed the pre-requisites and sat for (and passed) the CPA exam. I worked hard, and was Thankful for what I was able to achieve. I asked for guidance and tried to give back what was so freely given.
I am grateful for having turned my life over to a loving God that took my worst character defects and use them to my advantage. I am an extreme example of Divine intervention and proof that God is Good. Having come from that place to where I am now in my life is truly a miracle.
That is why my TMF username is TMFLifeIsGood – because it truly is.
