Personal Quote:
"Someone's sitting in the shade today, because someone planted a tree long ago." -- Warren Buffett.......... "As a group, lemmings have a rotten image, but no individual lemming has ever received bad press." -- Warren Buffett.........."There is this thing called a "joke," Frank, that you should become acquainted with. A joke is a display of cleverness intended to engender yux. Some people, however, require advance notice if they're to recognize a joke when they see one. In polite society it's customary when in the presence of such people to signal the onset of a joke by means of some subtle stratagem, such as a siren, large firecracker, or gong. Clearly your so-called friends could stand a lesson in thoughtfulness." - Cecil Adams........... "The stock market is filled with individuals who know the price of everything, but the value of nothing." -- Philip Fisher.......... Never attribute to malice what can be explained by incompetence........... It's like any other criticism. If you think the criticism is well-founded, there's no need to search for ulterior motives. If you believe the criticism is baseless, you start to question the reasons why the person levying the charges is being critical.......... "It isn't by the kindness of the baker that we receive bread." -- Adam Smith paraphrase.......... I realized that technical analysis didn't work when I turned the chart upside down and didn't get a different answer. -- Warren Buffett.......... "I am proud to be able to provide a good home for many businesses. It is like finding a home for a painting. Business owners who are looking to sell can either sell their businesses to Berkshire (like putting a painting in the Metropolitan Museum of Art) or sell to an LBO and let them tear it up, dress up the accounting, and resell it (like selling a painting to a porn shop)" -- Warren Buffett........... "There is a very fine line between "hobby" and 'mental illness.'"........... "And when God, who created the entire universe with all of its glories, decides to deliver a message to humanity, He WILL NOT use, as His messenger, a person on cable TV with a bad hairstyle."........... "No matter what happens, somebody will find a way to take it too seriously."........... "There comes a time when you should stop expecting other people to make a big deal about your birthday. That time is age eleven."........... "You're walking around blind without a cane pal. A fool and his money are lucky enough to get together in the first place." - Gordon Gekko..........."I guess that if they didn't spend so much time trying to figure out who would be worth one of their business cards, they might have figured it out. You could make a fortune buying them for what they were worth and selling for what they thought they were." - csbojlesen........... "All man's miseries derive from not being able to sit quietly in a room alone." - Blaise Pascal........... An idiot with an empty hand doesn't become a genius when you put a quarter in his hand. Now he's just an idiot with a quarter. Soon to be an idiot with a gum ball. -- LudditeAndroid ........... I respect your right to be mistaken. -- TMFOtter...........Because nothing is more attractive to women than a keen grasp of how tripping the securitization trigger affects an overcollateralization release on the step down date. - HowardRoark...........Went to the Giant for some Stilton Cheese to go with a new scotch I was craking open, and came back with $317 billion in notional value structured finance products. Not sure what happened there. Must have walked down the wrong aisle. -Bill Mann...........Just saw S&P downgraded Confederate war bonds after the close today because they concluded after completing their analysis that the Union indeed won--Friend of Tilson's after S&P downgrade some subprime lenders...........The problem with globalization is that of invisible beneficiaries and very visible losers. Every job loss that can even remotely be connected to globalization is. It is this problem that bedevils trade. - Larry Summers.....When a person with experience meets a person with money, the person with the experience ends up with the money and the person with the money ends up with the experience. -- Harvey MacKay

An Interview with XMFWBuffettJr

Last updated: 2/22/2006
The Fool:
What's your greatest athletic achievement? Little League champ? Ran a marathon? Did 4 consecutive sit-ups?
XMFWBuffettJr:
Just two weeks ago I was in the Ride for the Roses and road a full century (that's 100 miles) on my road bike through Austin.
The Fool:
Describe the most embarrassing personal moment you'll admit to!
XMFWBuffettJr:
So I made a post on the "improve the fool" board saying that recs should be removed from the Political Asylum boards. That post got recced so much it became post of the day. Suddenly it dissapeared from the list. I made this flaming thread going on and on about how I couldn't believe TMF would censor me and take my thread off of Post of the Day. Turns out it had just been more than 24 hours since I had posted it. I left my flaming thread up as punishment to myself.
The Fool:
Are we alone in the universe? If not, where is everybody?
XMFWBuffettJr:
There's no way we're alone. That would be an awful waste of a lot of space if we were. It's a simple numbers game, and the numbers are bigger than you or I can even comprehend. How many grains of sand can you hold in your hand? How many grains do you think are on an entire beach? Well consider this -- for every grain of sand on our entire planet, there are a billion stars out in space. And you're telling me there isn't another planet out there with the right conditions for life like Earth?
