An Interview with rbrock

Last updated: 7/20/2016
The Fool:
In what way would society be different if bears had become the dominant sentient species?
rbrock:
If Humphrey or Paddington are anything to go by, there would be no pants.. and I assume everyone would eat a lot more honey. Seems like a better alternative, in my opinion.
The Fool:
To what extent has your financial success, or lack thereof, been the result of luck versus skill?
rbrock:
Initially, entirely luck. But as I have learnt more about investing and developed the skills required to perform my own financial analysis, I have gained control over my financial decisions. Whether or not those financial decisions are successful is sometimes not the point; at the least I have come to my own conclusions and am not guided by someone else’s opinion. Instead, I have formed a unique idea or investment strategy based on my own research. This is why learning about investing is so important.
The Fool:
What do you fear most?
rbrock:
Running out of time; missing opportunities; not savouring those important parts of life.

My Story

My education was originally in liberal arts and creative writing, and I came to finance relatively late. I’m now knee deep in CFA textbooks and trying to learn as much about the financial markets as possible. My goal is to marry my love of writing with my continually developing skills in finance.

How I Invest

I try to invest in good companies with long term growth prospects. So generally that involves company research, reliance on trusted advice, and sometimes just a little pot luck.
