Quick add-in:  I forgot to tie in arson in my list.  Basically, it's like this:  A building burns down.  Everyone sees the ashes, and says "Yep, the fire destroyed the building."

What most people really want the answer to is the question "Why?"  If it was faulty equipment or wiring, everyone checks their own stuff.  If it was lightning , you can bet that sales of lightning rods are going to go through the roof for a while.  And if it's arson, everyone wants to  know who it was, so they can keep themselves safe.

The same questioning should apply to finances, on both a personal level and a national (or even world) stage.

'Nuff said.
