I remember when I started my first 401k in the 90s. A coworker refused to contribute even enough to get the company match (free money) because "the only safe place for my money is my wallet. My dad lived through the Depression and he told me never to trust the stock market and never trust a bank." Nevermind the fact that he was always broke several days before payday. I guess his back pocket isn't as safe as he thought it was.
