"And now even the Spotted Owl wont do for that mission, since it was competition by the Barred Owl that was causing the loss of Spotted owls." - SP

Change in prey species. Invasive Norway rats have out competed and actually killed and eaten the smaller North American rodents that the smaller Spotted owl fed on. The Norway rat, Rattus norvegicus, is too large for the Spotted owl to prey upon but not too large for its larger cousin, the Barred Owl, to feed on.

Another words, killing Barred owls is stupid. The problem isn't too many Barred Owls, its a new invasive species that is here to stay. All killing the Barred Owl will do is allowing Norway rats to proliferate.

Pure stupidity.
