"But no one lobbies for electric"

Have you seen the series of coal commercials on TV about how "clean" it is? Emissions have been reduced by 35% while energy production has doubled, according to the ads. Where do you think these come from?



Energy companies will lobby for more coal b/c it's a cheap way to produce electricity (b/c pollution effects aren't factored in) , thus raising profits.

However, most utilities will not want to raise consumption, as they have federal programs that reward them for LOWERING consumption (e.g. conservation programs, free furnace maintenance, insulation for low-income, etc.).
