The article itself, combined with the responses (that was well said, Swintah) suggests that whenever I start a family, I would do well to provide the kid(s) with

1. An education IRA
2. The means to find and get to summer/afterschool jobs

Both of these were things I didn't have growing up, and I believe they'll both give the upper hand in this world, through reduced "starting life" debt and real-world experience.

Pulling off #2 may require a change of venue, if not Driver's Ed. I've lived in two metro areas where the jobs were in suburbs that required a car for access.
