"I re-read this book just before the movie came out. This is not my favorite Heinlein book, but it's pretty good. If you are tempted to cheat and rent the movie, it won't work. As often happens, the heart of this book never made it to the movie."

I believe I read ST when I was 15 or 16 (...many moons ago...). When I saw the movie, I recognized very little of it outside of the "military dominated society", the flogging, and the co-ed arrangments of the troops (I remember thinking of Heinlien as a sort of "lascivious fascist" at the time). Thought the movie was fun, in its' own way, once I let go of comparisons to the book and accepted it on its' own terms.
