Unlike Patton, I was not there ;)

The time was Easter and lots of people lost their lives while attending mass. A priest was telling the crowds that the earthquake was god's punishment for rebelling against the Spanish crown. Bolívar shoved the priest off the mound of rubble and said the above memorable quote

"If nature opposes we will fight her and make her obey us." Dangerous words while the church was all powerful but Bolívar, like many of the American Founding Fathers was not a believer, if not an atheist, a deist.
