RCN 'Upgrade' Crashes System
Starpower Subscribers Among Many Off-Line for 33 Hours

Engineers upgrading RCN Corp.'s Internet access network over the weekend ended up crashing it instead, leaving more than half a million people unable to get online for up to 33 hours.

Around 2 a.m. Sunday, the company powered down its servers and routers so that it could install new software to better accommodate the extra traffic from the six local service providers--including Starpower Internet, formerly known as Erols, in the Washington-Baltimore area--that it recently purchased.

I not in that area but the outage affected me in MA.

These guys had 4 numbers in my area and the performance is fine.
