Re: mandatory withdrawel from a regular IRA.
I hope you meant to say that you will be 70 on 12/29/99 and not 80 as you typed. You must start receiving periodic distributions from your IRA by April 1st of the year following the year in which you reach age 70-1/2. This means that if you reached 70 on the end of december 1999 you do not have to start withdrawels in 1999. You have to start in 2000. IRS Publication 590 provides the info you need starting on page 22. This publication also contains the tables in Appendix E that will provide you with a factor that determines the amount you need to withdraw each year.
