I would hardly say "got caught" is the term. It was certainly no secret. The car magazines noted it, and all you had to do was open the hood and look. Funniest thing was that the Chevy engine was in almost all regards a much better engine than the Olds.

You can give the Federal Government as assist in creating the poor quality vehicles of the 70-80's. But, live by the sword ...
