Read all that's posted here about retirement and the retired fools board and also the retirement school. You seem to have a basis for the whole idea in keeping your short term (under 5 years) in safer vehicles and the rest in long term (stock). I'm 5 years or so from retirement and have been particularly interested in strategies too. I read somewhere (one Fools strategy) about keeping 1 years requirements in money market funds, 4 years in bonds and the rest in stocks. Each year re-evaluating and if the stocks are up replenishing the bonds and if the stocks are down letting it go another year. This sounds like a strategy to look in to. As always it's up to you.
