There was a Forbes article today http://www.forbes.com/sites/nickclements/2016/05/20/finally-... that said FICO scores are now available for free for anyone. Before this, you could currently get free Vantage scores from sites like mint.com creditkarma.com and quizzle.com (but they are 'Vantage' scores, not 'FICO' scores). Many banks have started to give away FICO scores, but you had to have an account (sometimes a specific type of account) at that bank.

Discover (which was one of the first banks to offer free FICO scores to their customers) is now hosting a new site at https://www.creditscorecard.com/ that allows everyone (not just Discover customers) to get a FICO credit score for free. You will have to provide your SSN and other identifying information (similar to the questions asked by www.annualcreditreport.com)

Caution: It is still one of probably at least 25 different FICO scoring models (i.e. different models/scores for mortgages vs. auto loans vs. credit cards, etc.), so it is likely still not the exact score that a lender would use.
