Regarding the pop-ups, I shut down my computer and then started fresh the next morning. Windows Defender said it had caught a few trojans. ...And then it started up again! Arghh!!! I wish someone could tell me if there was a truly effective anti-virus/trojan program out there. I have a couple of free ones, but you get what you pay for...

I have been running Linux since 1998, as far as I remember, and run Windows (7 Professional) only to run TaxAct and the Garmin map updater.

I have never gotten a virus or anything of the kind. I hope this is not shooting myself in the foot.

I run Firefox and have adBlockPlus available, but am running uBlock Origin as the only anti-virus anti malware. My router has a simple firewall in it, and my Linux version runs SELinux (Security Enhanced Linux); it also has a fire wall that accepts no input unless it is in response to something I sent out. It takes a skilled hacker to get through that, and I guess the NSA cannot be bothered to try.
