Regardless of rumors, Tesla mileage range remains much higher than competitors, supporting its purported battery tech advantage. Of cars available today, Tesla has a 300+ mile range compared to the Jaguar/Nissan/Hyundai models that only approach 250 miles. https://www.thezebra.com/ev-price-range-comparison/
IMO, Tesla is not dead until someone can demonstrate the ability to produce equivalent volumes of high capacity batteries at a competitive price. Ain't happened yet.

Hmmm. That “range” thing sounds pretty good until you look under the hood. Tesla’s “secret sauce”?

Tesla batteries weigh 1200 pounds. The Chevy Volt batteries weigh about 450. The Nissan Leaf batteries weigh about 650. Maybe Tesla’s range is a little bit longer because it has *twice* as many batteries?

In some regard there’s a limit, because a Tesla is carrying around all the weight, always. It’s like having the weight of a full tank of gas, even when you are on empty. Rockets avoid this weight penalty by shedding Stage 1 and Stage 2 on the way up. An electric car can’t do that, obviously.

Not to criticize, but Tesla seems to have about 50 miles more range at a cost of twice the weight of fuel. That likely means it costs more to recharge as well, and that’s fine, but until I see a straight up side-by-side comparison of the super-duper Tesla battery vs an “ordinary” battery, I’m going to guess that the difference, while perhaps real, is not so dramatic as some would have you believe.
