I max out my 401k and Roth IRA, and border the 28/31% tax bracket, currently on the 28% side, but am looking for a better job. I'm 40 and plan to retire in 25 years.

What other investment vehicles do you recommed I look into for retirement (tax deferred) that could bring me a better return than just me buying stocks in RM/RB type companies? Or, am I better off being a Fool in the stock market? I have about $500-1000 per month extra, depending on my spending.

Thank you.

Around Fooldom, we avoid recommendations because we believe investment decisions are best left to the individual based on your own knowledge, research and personal risk tolerance. In your case, the only other tax deferred option available is an annuity, an alternative Fools don't view with much fondness. For details, see our Annuity area at http://www.fool.com/retirement/annuities/annuities01.htm. Thus, if you don't use an annuity, IMHO the best alternative left is a long term, buy and hold investment in a taxable account.

I have nothing to add to that, I just think the importance of the statement can't be emphasized enough. I would start responses with that statement to all those who do come here looking for specific answers, or the secrets (shhh, keep it hush, hush) of successful investing. If more understood that, we'd loose half the messages on a certain board of people complaining that their FF isn't working, etc. Thanks for the simple but profound words, Pixy.
