rev2217: "But, is "evidence for the truth of religion" really lacking? Several years ago, I took a course in Classic Western Philosophy with a professor who stated publicly that Plato's writings contain rigorous proof of the existence of a Creator with the attributes of the God of Judeo-Christian faith. I have not studied Plato in sufficient depth to be able to verify or to dispute his claim, but I also have no reason whatsoever to doubt its veracity."

If you cannot dispute or verify the claim, but accept it anyway is that not just blind faith, based on appeal to authority?
