Crichton:

http://www.nytimes.com/2002/11/24/books/review/24HOLTLT.html

I really like his books, they are great page turners.

The two guys who wrote "The Relic," Preston and Childs, are giving him a run for the money, imo. I've enjoyed all of their books.

None of them are great works of art, but they are fun.

Crichton's last book even had me thinking about neutrons and stuff like that, which is remarkable given that the only science course I took in college was "chemistry for idiots," and I damned near flunked that (then I discovered that Cultural Anthropology counts as a science, hoo haa!).
