I plan on opening a Roth IRA next month with $2k, so that takes care of 1999. Can I then put in another $2k in January 2000 or do I have to wait until after April 15, 2000? I just want to be able to have those extra months working for me.Thanks.Jim
No you don't have to wait. But for contributions made between Jan 1 and Apr 15, you do need to indicate which year they are to be applied to.
I've heard a horror story on one of these boards.Don't write a post-dated check and send it in December, wait until January 2nd to mail the thing.
