This is a question for all those who have hooked a rug: did you use a frame? If so, what sort?

Using a frame didn't occur to me until I saw a mention of rug making frames at Rugmaker's Homestead. It doesn't appear in any of the instructions I have, either, so I guess I'm looking for reassurance.

I made a couple of hooked rugs a very long time ago, and I never used a frame. Just kept it folded on my lap, and refolded it as I moved up the rows.

But then, a frame for something 4' x 6' would be larger than I had room for.

rug hooking is one of those crafts I have no desire to go back to.

I've just had visions of someone with long retractable arms, hooking a rug on a huge canvas :o) (Think the bad-guy in Spider-Man 2)

Reaching into the middle would definitely be a problem.

Thanks for the reassurance.
