The boards are getting a new home!

We're pleased to announce an update is coming to the community boards. We are migrating the boards to a new platform. The site is currently in read-only mode and we will bring it back online as soon as the migration is complete.

Monday, September 26th 8AM EST: The migration is taking longer than expected, we need a few more hours to bring the site back online. | The Motley Fool Community

Excellent idea, martonem.

Yes, let's begin to archive our rankings -- not just for the official Rule Makers, but for any company that anyone cares to rank. The sky's the limit on how many companies we can archive. Then, every so often (perhaps monthly), I'll aggregate the results in a single post with links to all of the companies that have been ranked, sorted by total points. Then, we'll have a permanent link directly below just like the spreadsheets and the new FAQ.

And to get us started, I'll make this offer: the first 10 individuals that do at least 5 rankings will get an autographed copy of Rule Breaker, Rule Makers.

Sound good?

Here's how it'll work:

- Pick any company to rank, and score it against its top 3 competitors (using your best judgment), unless there are definitely not three competitors that apply (ex. Coke would only be ranked vs Pepsi).

(Be sure you've downloaded the latest version of the Ranker that is capable of comparing multiple competitors.)

- Use the most recent financials available, whether it is the 10Q or 10K.

- If someone has ranked a company vs 3 competitors, please try to avoid duplicating that same ranking until new financial statements apply (to the company or its competitors). You may, however, rank a company versus a different set of competitors, if other legitimate competitors exist.

-When posting your rankings, please follow these instructions for copying and pasting into the message:

1) Save your results from Excel as a "formatted text (space delimited)" file.
2) Re-open the file in WordPad or NotePad.
3) From there, copy and paste your results into the post.
4) Then, be sure to click the "Table Data" box before clicking "submit."

This is the easiest way to make your results space legibly in a post.

This should be an awesome resource for us all. As time goes by, hopefully we'll accumulate a sizable list of current rankings that can be a ready source of research.

Fool on!
