It is with great sadness and regret that I report that one of our own, Gerry Metcalfe, a.k.a. IllinoisGEM, passed away suddenly on July 30th. I spoke with his wife earlier today, and I expressed my personal condolences, and those of the MI community and all Fools, as I know that his work is greatly respected and admired by many of us here.

His wife seems to be doing as well as anyone could be expected to be doing at this time. She said that she would like his work to continue, but didn't know what to do with his Screen Generator program. She called me before posting under his name to the boards, as I have been working with Gerry to resolve some legal issues with respect to the Screen Generator program, which have been resolved.

I told her that I would make sure that his work would continue. I know that I don't have the skills to carry on Gerry's work, but I'm sure that there is someone here who can. If there is someone out there in Fooldom that would like to volunteer, please let me know.

Also, I would like the community's thoughts as to how best to pay our respects to his family. I never met Gerry personally, and didn't know him except through a few phone calls, some emails, and his posts to the board, but it is clear to me that he had a great deal of passion for MI (and, it seems, barbequeing), and he put great effort into those interests. He was, quite simply, a 'giver', not a 'taker'. He enjoyed sharing a laugh, and he made sure to offer congratulations and kind words often, and with sincerity. He made the Fool a more positive experience for many of us, and for that he will be sorely missed.

Thank you, Gerry. We'll miss you.
