safehaven, I did the move-from-MO to KS thing a couple of years ago and I was indeed responsible for all the MO property tax for that year because I lived in MO on 1/1.

KS works differently than MO. In MO, property tax is based on what you owed on 1/1 and is due by 12/31. In KS, property tax - at least for cars - is due during a given month based on where your last name falls in the alphabet. My last name starts with A, so i was January. Hubby's last name starts with R, so his was always due in September.
