Looking back, the pilots didn't know about the MCAS system, it was not in their flight manual and they were assured by Boeing that the 737 MAX was identical to the older versions of the 737.

Boeing decided that 737 pilots needed no extra training on the system - and indeed that they didn’t even need to know about it. It was not mentioned in their flight manuals.

And this undisclosed system on the 737 MAX had a safety option for an extra charge!

Yes, you read that correctly. If you don't want your 737 MAX to find itself in a vertical position, nose down, heading for the ground at 500 mph then you need to pay an extra charge for the safety option! And this, to keep you safe from the MCAS - the other safety system Boeing installed on your plane without your knowledge! This is getting better by the minute!

Boeing jets in Ethiopia and Indonesia lacked two safety features in their cockpits because the company charged extra to install them... Neither safety feature was mandated by the Federal Aviation Administration, but experts say it is key to flight safety... They’re critical, and cost almost nothing for the airlines to install...

And if you buy this extra safety option, Boeing might tell you how to turn off the MCAS system you know nothing about!
