See, to me and many other with my point of view, renting improves my quality of life much more than "owning" ever could.
Renting, at least in an apartment, comes with a lot of nuisances. Periodic home invasions by the landlord, neighbors that are loud, smoke, or otherwise cause problems, various rules about this and that. no flexibility to make improvements. I don't deny that in many cases, renting is cheaper. That's why I described it as an expenditure. If you don't think it's worth the money, then you should rent, which is what you do, so... great! :) I rent too, for the same reasons, but then I live in Seattle where the cost of renting is sane and the cost of owning, well, isn't (Seattle still hasn't figured out that the housing bubble has popped, so unsold houses are going through the roof while prices are still in the stratosphere).

Condos sort of give you the worst of both worlds, all the expense of owning with all the irritants of renting. I would not buy a condo unless prices were terrifically low.
