I became concerned about Fidelity's Magellan fund becoming too ungainly to manage, so I transferred 85% of my IRA holdings in that fund at NAV $94.50 to a temporary MM fund. (Approx $50,000) (NAV is now over $100...Oh, well!)

I have never invested in individual stocks, but would like to do this in a self-directed IRA; however, I have no clue how to go about this.

Could someone direct me to a good source of info, or explain to me how to start?

Also, with the new capital gains law, does it still make sense to buy growth stocks within a tax-sheltered vehicle? If not, what should I buy??
