Senator Susan Collins (R-Maine) weighs in:

But the way that the president has handled this nomination has been clumsy at best."..."It adds to the further perception that the court is a political institution like Congress when it is not supposed to be," Collins added. "So, I certainly am open to whomever he decides to nominate. My job as a senator is to evaluate the qualifications of that person under the advice and consent role."

When confronted with the fact that Reagan, as a candidate, promised to nominate a woman to the court, and Trump promised to replace Ginsburg with a woman, Collins said those situations were different. Yes they were. The Reagan and Trump nominees were both white.

When the name of a Federal judge, who Collins voted to put on the Federal bench, was brought up as a possible nominee, Collins demurred. The GOP appears to be pressing it's racist position so hard than even a relative moderate, like Collins, feels pressured to go along, even though she didn't explicitly howl about "affirmative action" and "white victim-hood" like other Repubs do.

During the impeachment trial about January 6th, Collins voted to convict Trump. Now, in that same interview, when asked if she would now support Trump as nominee for POTUS in 24, she, again demurred.

Now that is control of the party by the fascists.
