Several new receivers have a direct input for an iPod (Harman Kardon, Onkyo, Yamaha, Denon)

What about a subwoofer, or do you already have one picked out? What kind of speakers do you have?

How big is your room? Ceiling height? Length and width?

When you say "big ass HDTV" how big is that to you? 50 inches? 120 inches?

If you want a gigantic screen, go with a projector and a screen. This would also lead to buying a receiver with component video switching (which most have nowadays), in order to minimize the wiring going into the projector.

If you want to go with, say a 65" or smaller TV, consider a micro-projection TV, such as a DLP, LCD, or LCoS rear projection TV. See the FAQ (#1C) for a description of these. (Yee ha! My first recommendation for the FAQ!!)
