short story?

I can't remember the name. I'm pretty sure the author was German (or at least it takes place in the German forests).

Two noblemen with a long history of enmity are separated from their respective hunting parties in the German forest. I think one breaks his leg. They rest against a tree, and finally end the feud that has been dividing their families for years and years. They hear a howling from the forest.

The last word of the story is: "Wolves."

(with the implication being that, after finally having found peace between themselves, they now faced a common enemy that would devour them)

I was thinking the story is a good analogy to the U.S. relationship with Russia, vis a vis terrorism.

I know it was written by O. Henry, but I don't know the name off the top of my head.
