Time to start studying another new scoring system.

A couple of weeks ago they aired the American Cup - which is the first televised gymnastics meet (as far as I know) to show the new scoring system. "Good" scores for women were in the 15 - 16 range. The commentating was relatively helpful in figuring it all out. OTOH, poor Al Trautwig just lost the only thing he ever knew about gymnastics - falls are no longer a 0.5 deduction. Still they persist in allowing the man to talk.

I've read the entire women's gymnastics code of points (here http://www.fig-gymnastics.com/index2.jsp?menu=diswag if you want it) and will maybe do a little recap later on - like right before or after the National Championships (a.k.a. Visa Championships) in August.

In the meantime, fans might want to watch a few meets if they can so that the system is not that much of a shock come 2008.

Also --
College gymnastics still uses the old 10.0 system and we're coming into the post-season, so quite a few meets are being televised soon. Even though the meets are over, the Pac-10 championships and Big 12 are being televised sometime in the next 2 weeks (because I set my TiVo already). Regionals are in a couple of weeks and NCAA finals start on April 20th.
