Simplified variants of the art of memory were also taught through the 19th century as useful to public orators, including preachers and after-dinner speakers

But then in the last half of the 19th, a better method was found. It was invented by a new class of highly effective communicators, called "carnival barkers." PT Barnum is probably the most famous, but many others arose.

In carnival-barking, no memory is needed. You just make stuff up, and claim that "people are saying it." Herd mentality and wishful thinking then cause the masses to believe you.

Carnival barking emerged as the most effective form of rhetoric during the second decade of the 21st Century. It could change black into white, and up into down. It caused major empires to commit suicide, while believing they were Greater than ever before.
