The government may waive up to $7 billion in royalty payments from companies pumping oil and natural gas on federal territory in the next five years, the New York Times reported on Tuesday, citing administration officials and budget documents.

So let's recap: One of the most profitible industries on the planet is being given a tax break by the (Republican-controlled) government on money they're making on public land, at a time when gas prices are, I would say, quite high.

Sounds about right (no pun intended).
