MAGIC. Most hedge funds under perform Index Mutual Funds. Here's a link to a 2018 update on Warren Buffet's hedge fund vs index fund challenge.

That said any "managed" Mutual Fund (not an Index type) has somewhere between 75 & 80% probability of under performing an Index Fund. It's really, really hard to beat the market on average. Not impossible but difficult. Check out the free MF board Saul's Investment Discussions for some good examples of out performing the index funds.
