So, how will biotech consolidate? Will several of the big pharmaceuticals buy some of these biotechs to expand their business? If so, anyone want to speculate on which pharms will buy which bios? Or will the bios merge to create several mega-bios? If so, which bios are likely to merge with each other?

Without trying to risk your wrath by bringing up a question thought unworthy, let me try a second time. There have already been some allusions to answers in several posts.

iseek posted a link to an article in "Signals" (http://www.signalsmag.com/signalsmag.nsf/0/4D13EF3E202F0A6B88256883000C5893?Open) ezine that discusses the merger mania of the big pharms. According to this article, the mergers are creating gargantuan R&D budgets, thousands upon thousands of new drug targets, and the need to ally with bios. The article suggests that the mergers will create deals between big pharms and bios that are even richer for the bios. Hmmm . . . .

In counterpoint, though, kendixonmd posted an article in wired" ezine (http://www.wired.com/news/technology/0,1282,34673,00.html) that suggests that the bios will eventually dwarf the big pharms, and that it might be too late for the big pharms to climb aboard.

Two different views of the future. Anyone here want to comment? Will the big pharms continue to be the big presence in the world, with the bios simply being their allies? Or will the bios eventually dwarf the big pharms? Will merger mania overcome the bios like it has the big pharms? If so, which mergers would you like to see.

Eagerly awaiting your reply.

Doug
