So... how's COVID-19 helping or hurting your spending?

Cut spending a LOT.

The biggest cut has been to travel. We had a 2-week trip to Italy all set for May-June, and that got scrapped. With only a bit of prodding, we got 100% of our air and rental refunded.

Pre-pandemic, I'd drive roundtrip to Detroit a couple of times/week, plus some driving while there: approx. 200-250 miles/week. That's gone to zero for the past 3 months.

Other than a couple of takeout pizzas, we've had home-cooked meals entirely. And no "date nights"--movies, concerts, shows, etc.

Oh, and haircuts! We bought a hair clipper + attachments for $40 and have used it 3 times so far (on me). It's not perfect, but it's surprisingly okay.

So, we're spending a good deal less money. Not entirely happy about it, but it hasn't been awful. I completed two long research articles I'd been wanting to finish, I've done more running and biking, and DW and I are playing bocce at the nearby park a coupla times/week, all by ourselves, which is fun.
