Can you elect benefits based on your own earnings, and then switch to spousal benefits later? Alternatively, can you elect a spousal benefit, and then switch to benefits based on your earnings later? For instance, can you delay your own benefits, thus earning the kick up in the benefit amount, while taking a spousal benefit, and then elect benefits based on your earnings later?

Does anyone knoe a good resource on the web for these types of issues? - (I didn't find anything on the social security administration) web site
