And liberalism is a radical, fanatical religion based on the trinity of exploiting race, gender, and class. What other group of half-wits would come up with the follow idiocy?Fathom the hypocrisy of a government that requires every citizen to prove the are insured...., but not everyone must prove they are a citizen. And now, any of those who refuse, or are unable to prove they are citizens will receive free insurance paid for by those who are forced to buy insurance because they are citizens."Ben Stein
The problem with socialism and liberalism is that they're both drenched in emotion. They can't think straight from all the "feelings" they bring to any discussion. Math means nothing to them, or if it means anything at all, it's useful only for determining how much of my money they can take to give to someone else, in many cases with few questions asked. Why are we handing out Social Security, SS survivor's benefits, unemployment, tax rebates and everything else you can think of to people who don't need it? Why do we force everyone into Medicare? Why not let people who wish to buy private insurance do so, and keep Medicare for those who can't or don't want to? Why do we force both spouses to apply for Social Security, even if one isn't old enough? Everyone in government, from Washington on down, needs to get into a savings mode and out of a spending mode. For cryin' out loud, even Jesus Christ said, "The poor will always be with you."* All the characteristics that made this country great--self-determination, resilience, indomitable spirit, generosity, etc.--have been slowly drained out of the citizenry through government intervention (FDR's New Deal, 1933-1936; LBJ's Great Society) to FORCE people to demonstrate a twisted version of "compassion" that is more genuinely manifest individually.Sure, I feel good when I help someone, but I feel nothing but rage when I pay taxes to an inept government that squanders my hard earned money to do the same thing I would do on my own. But because the government taxes me severely, I have less money to help others. How perverse is that?*The poor you will always have with you, and you can help them any time you want. But you will not always have me. Mark 14:7
Liberalism is all about convincing people that they can live a better life at someone else's expense, and that that model will work forever. Of course, it works until the music stops, and then you have riots (as most of Europe is illustrating), but that doesn't stop idiots from enthusiastically handing over their freedoms (and votes) in exchange for free candy until then. It's the old story of ants vs. grasshoppers, only in this version, grasshoppers get to vote themselves some of the ants' property -- more each year, actually.
Why do we force everyone into Medicare? Why not let people who wish to buy private insurance do so, and keep Medicare for those who can't or don't want to?Well, this one I can answer. We DON'T force everyone into Medicare. It's just that Medicare is so heavily subsidized that nothing else can compete with it, and the private insurers had given up trying by about 5 years after Medicare was enacted (with the promise that the 50% of seniors who already had private health insurance would be able to keep it).Sure, you're still free to have no medical coverage at all... in a highly distorted market (Medicare is just one of the distorting factors) where not having medical coverage costs you more every time you walk through a doctor's office doorway.(I just got an "explanation of benefits" on our insurance for a recent doctor visit. Simply having insurance reduced the bill by a bit over 21% - and then the insurance paid a portion of the remaining charges.)
You mean I can't go to any physician I wish and pay cash for the physician's services?
