Solar cells probably will be cheap one day. But this is more like DRAM manufacturers than Intel. Intel got lock in because IBM chose them for the initial PC CPU. (Had IBM gone with the technically superior but more expensive Motorola chip, Intel would be a small footnote in corporate history.) There is no lock with solar cells, so people will buy whatever is cheapest, which gets us back to margin shrinkage.
