Sole surviving WWII Medal of Honor Marine, 97, deploys FLAMETHROWER in tribute to veterans - the same weapon he used in acts of bravery during the Battle of Iwo Jima

Williams used a flamethrower in extraordinary single acts of bravery during the Battle of Iwo Jima on February 23, 1945

'He grimly charged enemy riflemen who attempted to stop him with bayonets and destroyed them with a burst of flame,' his Medal of Honor citation says

A Navy vessel, a VA hospital and a National Guard facility are named after him

'Covered only by four riflemen, he fought desperately for four hours under terrific enemy small-arms fire and repeatedly returned to his own lines to prepare demolition charges and obtain serviced flamethrowers' and kept going back 'to the rear of hostile emplacements, to wipe out one position after another.'
