Sounds like heaven! IIRC the Wall Street Journal ran an article on Arthur Avenue some years ago. To a foodie, it seems like it would be a destination.

It was a wild place to grow up

With regular trips to Arthur Avenue and in the other direction was the Grand Concourse and the fine Jewish shops at the time Chocolates and Delis and good German bakeries with unbelievable Vienna roles I have not ever found anything else to come close to

Walking distance to the Bronx Zoo(free on Wednesday) with the NY Botanical Gardens right across the street, and sneaking into Fordham University to play on their fields.

I know everyone had their little bit of heaven as a kid, but damn all that within walking distance of home as well as bent bars on the Amtrack so you sneak pennies and flatten them on the tracks,

It's a shame you can't live in that area any more without a real daily fear of being shot.
