quick overview - I'm a MVL owner / DIS lurker... on the (yahoo) MVL board buyouts are occassionally brought up, insofar as a large media company getting their hands on the few thousand characters (Spider-man, Hulk, etc) that Marvel Comics has, in efforts to build content. Disney is occassionally talked about as a suitor, but never very seriously.

I noticed in the latest Buena Vista release today that there is an upcoming Spider-man cartoon DVD being released on "Disney DVD", and wondered if this is the sort of thing that happens often, with various non-Disney properties being released like this? Is this basically a "non-news" item?

here's the blurb from the release:

Buena Vista Home Entertainment has announced that Spider-Man: The Ultimate Villian Showdown is coming to VHS ($14.99 S.R.P.) and DVD ($19.99 S.R.P.) on April 30, 2002. The pre-order date is set for March 19th. Here is how they describe the video...

America's #1 superhero, Spider-Man spins a web of animated excitement in SPIDER-MAN: THE ULTIMATE VILLAIN SHOWDOWN, new to Disney DVD and video.

any insight? thanks...
