Staples beats by $0.01, misses on revs; guides FY13 EPS above consensus (SPLS) 11.25 : Reports Q3 (Oct) earnings of $0.46 per share, $0.01 better than the Capital IQ Consensus Estimate of $0.45; revenues fell 2.0% year/year to $6.35 bln vs the $6.46 bln consensus. Co issues upside guidance for FY13, sees EPS of low single digits over last yr's $1.37, excluding non-recurring items, vs. $1.37 Capital IQ Consensus Estimate. The co expects to generate more than $1 bln of free cash flow and plans to continue to repurchase its common stock through open-market purchases, which are expected to total ~$450 mln during 2012.

Stock is up 0.55 in pre-market.

Have not seen any further speculation on a private equity or other buyout.
