Statins are now the most prescribed drug in human history; and it looks like they will continue to grow in usage. Small-dose usage by people who clearly already have a risk factor...and Type-II diabetes is one of the biggest ones....is erring on the safer side, in my view (all things considered of course). And, probably, rightly so. The Pravastatin studies indicated a 50% reduction in heart attacks for patients taking Pravastatin vs controls. That's phenomenal! Although the results are not in, hopefully the more potent analogs (Lipitor et al.) will show even better numbers. We may be looking at a situation where beta-blockers plus statins controls 75% or more of prospective heart attacks. That's phenomenal!!!OleDoc
