Steven,

thank you for your reply.

I am conscient that there are lots of different ways to transcribe Hebrew.

But what should we do with those allophones that usually are called 'begatkephat'? Should we write me'o_d or me'od? I know that in Ivrith you don't change a 't' into a 'th' after a vowel, you just say histadrut, not histadruth. But you still say Tel A_bî_b not, Tel Abîb.

Another problem I have with transcribing Hebrew are the vowels. Which are short, and which are long? How do I transcribe the vowels in daerae_k (way), e.g. It's not an 'a', and it's not an 'e'. Or this qamae.s hatup thing, is it rû.h or rua.h?

There should be a standarized form to give both vowels and consonants in a way you can reconstruct a text.

Thanks again,

Abe
