I just have to vent and am so grateful for this board for giving me a place to do it.

My gripe is the ever-increasing phone calls and junk mail offering me new credit cards. Now I know these solicitations are coming because we have a decent credit rating (thank god), which the credit card companies seem bent on destroying by offering us more opportunities to go into debt.

So I'm told by all the advice literature that all I have to do it contact the three big credit reporting agencies and request that our credit info not be given out to anyone unless an inquiry is instigated by us (via a credit application). Okay, I've done this. Several times in fact. They all say this could take up to 30 days to be effective, and the "gag order" will be good for two years. Well it's been at least six months and I'm still getting almost daily "courtesy calls from Discover Card" and a dozen others. Don't even ask about the stuff that comes in the mail! The worst are the ones with a non-negotiable "check" attached for thirty, forty, fifty-thousand dollars(!) in "home equity credit".

Sheesh... does anyone know how to stop this madness? Why won't the credit reporting agencies honor my request to stop handing out our credit info to every Tom, Dick and Hairy Ape who's trolling for a sucker to fall for their 24% credit offers?

Disgusted and fed up and looking for revenge. Grrrr,
